Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, removes excess fat and skin and, in most cases, restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.

A flat and well-toned abdomen is something many of us strive for through exercise and weight control. Sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals. A tummy tuck will result in a flatter, firmer abdominal contour that is more proportionate with your body type and weight. (American Society of Plastic Surgeons)

Skin Only Abdominoplasty

A skin only Abdominoplasty, is very simply a procedure that eliminates excess skin from the abdomen without having to tighten the muscles like in a retrial abdominoplasty. Patients will recover faster after this procedure compared to a full abdominoplasty. The recovery process will also be more comfortable.

You are an ideal candidate for a tummy tuck procedure if you are:

  • Healthy with a stable weight
  • Worried about how your abdomen looks
  • A non-smoker with a regular healing rate
  • No longer planning to get pregnant
  • Frustrated by stretch marks or loose abdominal skin
  • Committed to maintaining your figure with proper diet and regular exercise

At your consultation, the surgeon will ask about your medical history, current medications, and lifestyle. You will tell the surgeon about your expectations regarding the results of the procedure.

Photographs of your abdomen will be taken so the surgeon can assess its current condition, including which areas to treat and its potential appearance after the treatment. A surgical plan will then be created to help realize your goals.

Step 1. Anesthesia is administered (either general or a combination of local and sedation).

Step 2. An incision is made from hipbone to hipbone, between the pubic hairline and the belly button.Another incision might be required around the belly button for greater access.

Step 3. Liposuction may be used to remove excess fat. Internal sutures may be used to tighten loose abdominal muscles. Excess skin is trimmed away.

Step 4. The upper abdominal skin is pulled down and secured. The belly button issutured to its new position.

Step 5. Incisionsare closed through sutures, tapes, or clips.

“After a horrible experience and outcome with another surgeon I decided after a lot of research to meet with Dr. Wilder. I had an extremely difficult case. Dr. Wilder is a miracle worker. I could not be happier with the outcome. I only wish I had come to him the first time. Tricia, his nurse, is also the absolute best.”
