Dr. Wilder's Philosophy on Facial Procedures

As far as his facial surgery patients, Dr. Wilder is very conservative with his technique to provide the best results. Our patients do not have that “surgery” look that is often the case in this industry. Facelift patients often have a real fear that they will not look like themselves after surgery. Our patients look like themselves, just refreshed, like they have been on a good vacation. For this reason, he now has a huge following not just in Austin, but all over Texas as well as out of state.

A facelift removes the excess skin and fat on the face. The muscles under the skin are tightened and the remaining skin is draped over the face. This results in a much firmer, fresher looking face. Depending on your current facial structure and appearance, the results of your facelift may very subtle or very dramatic. Because every individual has unique facial structures, the results can vary greatly with each person. The surgery itself takes several hours to complete and can cause temporary bruising, swelling, numbness and tenderness of skin. A tight feeling and dry skin may also be possible.

Are You a Facelift Candidate?

Typically, patients over the age of 18 who are displaying signs of aging are candidates for a facelift. A facelift is considered a safe procedure as long as you are healthy and in good physical shape. Ideal candidates for this procedure are those who are experiencing wrinkles, sagging eyelids, sagging skin on the jaw or chin or anywhere on your face. If you only have certain problem areas, such as wrinkles on the forehead or sagging eyelids, you might only need a brow lift (forehead lift) or eyelid lift. If you have signs of aging on your entire face, you are a great candidate for a facelift.

Blepharoplasty (Upper & Lower Eye Lid)

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the eyelids.

Surgery can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids or both.

Whether you want to improve your appearance or are experiencing functional problems with your eyelids, eyelid surgery can rejuvenate the area surrounding your eyes. (American Society of Plastic Surgeons)

What eyelid surgery can treat

  • Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision

  • Fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids

  • Bags under the eyes

  • Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris

  • Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid

Brow Lift

A brow lift procedure with Dr, Wilder will restore the area around your eyes to a more youthful appearance. Our procedure corrects drooping brows and wrinkles or horizontal lines that develop over the course of your life. Austin PSI’s brow lift is a great way to get rid of those wrinkles that make patients appear as if they are frowning or tired.

We use several different techniques to modify brow position. Two factors that determine the surgical technique that will be employed include: thickness of hair and distance between the hairline and brow. However, every patient has different needs when it comes to a brow lift. Therefore, it’s important for our board-certified plastic surgeons to conduct a thorough consultation. Lip Augmentation

Lip augmentation techniques are sometimes performed in tandem with other facial procedure.

Did you know lip augmentation can not only improve the appearance of the fullness of your lips, but also minimize fine lines and wrinkles around your mouth? Whatever your lip enhancement desires are, be sure to make a consultation appointment with our trusted, board-certified plastic surgeons to explore which option is best for you.

  • Lip Implants: This is a surgical procedure that provides a permanent increase in lip size. There are two alternatives available that most surgeons use, including PermaLip, which is a solid silicone material that offers a natural, soft result; and Advanta Lip, which uses a synthetic Gore-Tex material that offers a fuller result with a firmer feel.

  • Fat Filler: This is a nonsurgical injection, also referred to as a fat transfer. The process involves removing fat through liposuction from the patient’s body, filtering this fat and then transferring it to the lips.

An rhinoplasty, or aesthetic nose surgery, reshapes the nose by reducing or increasing size, removing a bump, narrowing the span of the nostrils, changing the angle between the nose and upper lip, or changing the shape of tip or bridge. Rhinoplasty may help to relieve breathing problems (in which case it may be covered by insurance).

The goal of rhinoplasty is to create a result that looks natural and blends with the rest of the face. Patients should have realistic expectations and understand this procedure will change the appearance of their face, and must be at least 16 years of age to ensure that the nose is fully developed. Frequently asked questions

How long does a facelift last?

A facelift will normally last 6-10 years. Unfortunately, we cannot stop gravity.

When is the ideal time to do a facelift?

The best time to do a facelift is when the sagging skin justifies it and before it is
“too late.” Skin elasticity really deteriorates after age 65. It is very individual.
The best thing to do is have a consultation if you think you are ready.
